My research question would be to define the cause of injuries to players in football during competition and training
I would need to limit this question to a specific population, a specific age, individuals who have received a similar level and intensity of training, and, ideally, individuals under one structure, such as individuals competing in various sports in a school / college environment.
My qualitative method would employ surveys, focus groups, and open-ended questions centering on aspects that resulted in injuries, patterns of life that are evidenced by individuals most prone to injuries over a certain amount of time, other significant patterns that evidence themselves in relation to these injuries, environments...
Gender and age will be other variables that will be taken into consideration.
I may even run a meta-analysis of research studies where injuries in a football context occurred and assess comparisons and similarities to se whether any significant patterns emerge.
Another option would be to assess relevant data on a specific football team that has been collected over a certain segment of time, whilst I may integrate these approaches with a cohort observational study where I, in conjunction with other researchers, may observe a team that has a reputation for experiencing a high rate of injuries and compare that with a team -- similarly matched -- that has a reputation for safety.
